Both marble and wooden flooring are quite beautiful choices, however they require a little tender loving care on occasion in order to keep them looking spectacular. This may seem like a daunting task, but do not worry because there are some easy techniques for taking care of your marble or wooden flooring. Try some of these trusted techniques and you will find that your floors will stay looking elegant for years to come..
Marble Flooring
In general, people often choose to have their marble floors professionally polished every 5-8 years. In this process, stones are used to polish the marble until it is shining and smooth. Also during this process, all of the visible scratches will be polished away and removed.
When cleaning your floor, mop in similar fashion to the way any other floor would be mopped. Fill a bucket with warm water, adding a gentle detergent or stone soap liquid. Then, simply mop the floor as normal, being careful to use overlapping strokes so that the shine is even. Once that is complete, go over the floor one more time with soap free water and then let the floor air dry.
In order to remove the scuff marks and other markings, provide individual attention by using either a gentle detergent or a neutral ph powder cleanser. Gently rub away at the marking in a straight line that follows the grain of the marble. Circular motions while scrubbing will leave behind unwanted marks.
Wooden Flooring
Cleaning a wooden floor does not have to be a difficult task. In fact, they are fairly easy to maintain. They need to be polished about every 6 – 10 years, depending on how well the condition holds up. When polishing, commercial buildings often use a water based polish and some residential homes prefer to use oil based polish.
These floors, of course, can be taken care of on a daily basis simply by sweeping them with a dust mop to remove dust and dirt. But, mopping a wooden floor with water and vinegar can bring added shine to your floor. Simply hand mop the floor with the water and vinegar mixture, immediately wiping up the vinegar solution with a different rag. Then, let the floor finish drying by air and you will be left with a shining wood floor.
